Unomedical To Resume Production
Unomedical Media Release
Friday August 17, 2007
The Unomedical factory at Mona Vale is now expected to resume full production later next week,
under strict air quality monitoring conditions.
The company’s Managing Director, Anders Kolding, today welcomed the announcement by Pittwater
Council, NSW Health and the Department of Environment and Climate Change that production would be
allowed to resume, following the installation of a new catalytic converter.
“The strict monitoring conditions imposed will ensure that our neighbours can have every confidence
that our operations pose no threat to their health and safety,” he said.
“This has been a difficult period for us all and we are pleased that the issue has now been resolved.”
Mr. Kolding said Unomedical had already begun work on an air quality improvement program at the
factory. As a result of the work already done the company had been able to get the new catalytic
converter imported from Europe, installed and operational in record time.
“We have invested $400,000 in this new equipment, which will ensure world’s best practice at our
plant.”
He said the resumption of normal operations would ensure that supplies of sterilised medical
equipment would continue to flow to hospitals around Australia and New Zealand.
“The longer this issue continued the greater chance there was that essential hospital operations
might have to be cancelled or delayed, due to the lack of sterilised equipment produced at our Mona
Vale plant.”
Mr. Kolding said the resumption was also good news for the company’s loyal and dedicated workforce
of 170, who had been retained during the shut-down period but had concerns about their long-term
employment.
“We regret any concern that this issue may have caused to local residents. We would like to
reassure them that Unomedical is totally committed to ensuring there is no threat to the health of
local residents or staff.”
