1964
The company was founded under the name Pharma-Plast by a Danish pioneer in the field of plastics. The company’s mission was to produce low-cost, single-use medical devices to replace reusable products, which were difficult to sterilise effectively.

1968
Pharma-Plast became a member of the A.P. Moller Group.

1974
Drena Plast in Vig, Denmark, was purchased, specialising in the production of urine drainage bags.

1981
Svend Andersen Plastic Industri A/S in Haarlev, Denmark, was acquired. The products were mainly urine drainage bags.

1982
A catheter producer, Leeb Hospital Disposables in Osted, Denmark, was acquired.

1984
Asik A/S in Roedby, Denmark was purchased, a producer of syringes.

1985
A new factory for the production of catheters was erected in Lynge, Denmark.

1988
Internationalisation commenced with the acquisition of Bradgate-Unitech in England, a manufacturer of urine bags to supplement the existing range.

1989
Further expansion in England was accomplished through the acquisition of Steriseal, a manufacturer of ophthalmic surgery instruments and Rotax, a well-known producer of scalpels and blades.

The U.K. company was awarded "The Queens Award for Technological Achievement" for their revolutionary innovations in the field of wound healing. The product, Sorbsan, is derived from a special type of seaweed.

1990
A new corporate headquarters was built, close to the catheter factory in Lynge, Denmark, to house administration.

A tool manufacturer in Denmark was purchased, A/S Kenneth Winther Tool Factory, which specialised in high-precision injection moulding.

1994
Boston Pacific Sdn., Bhd. in Malaysia, a producer of Foley catheters, was acquired and technology and know-how from Denmark was transferred for the production of PVC catheters.This acquisition included a small sales company in Australia, Boston Pacific Pty. Ltd.

Another Danish manufacturer of single-use medical products, UnoPlast, was acquired and this company was merged with the catheter production in Lynge. A joint venture was established in Minsk with the Investment Fund for Central and Eastern Europe (IØ), plus an agreement with a local partner, Electronika.

1995
A major building expansion was completed to house the Microbiological Laboratory.

1996
A new era began. All Pharma-Plast companies changed their name to Maersk Medical. The purpose of the name change was to become recognised as one company the world over as a preferred supplier of medical devices.

Maersk Medical acquired Indoplas Pty. Ltd. in Sydney, a well known company engaged in the manufacture of medical devices, mainly for the Australian professional health care market. With this acquisition, Maersk Medical strengthened their platform to enable further growth in the Asia/Pacific region. In order to focus on its core businesses, Maersk Medical divested the Business Unit Syringes (formerly Asik) in Denmark.

With the Danish Industrialization Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) and the Indian TTK Biomed (owned by the TTK Group), Maersk Medical entered into a joint venture agreement for the production and sale of a range of hospital products in India. The name of the new company is TTK Maersk Medical Ltd. Its offices are located in Aurangabad.

Maersk Medical was awarded the 1996 Product Prize by the Confederation of Danish Industries for PureLine Comfort, an infusion set for medication via a pump. The prize was awarded for the development of an excellent Danish industrial product with special features.

1997
A new factory and administration building in Osted, Denmark was inaugurated in order to meet the increased demands for self-lubricating catheters.

1998
Maersk Medical acquired the assets of the Danish company Leo Medico which markets single-use products, such as wound drainage and post-operative autotransfusion systems.

Maersk Medical acquired the electrode, fixation, and orthopaedic businesses of Nikomed, including the UK-based company Niko Surgical Ltd.

Maersk Medical acquired the American manufacturer of medical devices, Hospitak, headquartered on Long Island, New York, with production facilities in Mexico. The product range targets the Critical Care and Respiratory Care segments.

Maersk Medical acquired Euromedical Industries Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia, a manufacturer of single-use medical devices. Through this acquisition, Maersk Medical became the world’s largest supplier of Foley catheters.

2000
Maersk Medical acquired MSB Limited, a UK Ramsbury based manufacturer of ECG electrodes and related products.

2001
Maersk Medical acquired the Norwegian company Knutsen Sykehus- og Legeutstyr, Oslo.

Maersk Medical acquired Nikomed OY, Finland.

2003
Nordic Capital acquired the whole share capital of Maersk Medical.

The company changes name to Unomedical.

2006
New factory in Slovakia was inaugurated
